Coaching and Consultations

Running a small business requires expertise in a lot of different areas, and online marketing is foremost among them. The internet is abundant with opportunities, but it’s constantly changing, and most strategies worth pursuing involve a learning curve.

I offer a variety of coaching services for small businesses and independent professionals, all of which are fully tailored to my clients’ goals and skill levels. I can teach you how to use WordPress to manage your website or run a blog, and I can show you how to use social media to promote your business. Want to polish your writing skills? I can help with that too.

  • WordPress

  • and more…
What do you want to learn?

WordPress is a powerful yet flexible content management system for websites. Almost anyone can start using WordPress immediately. The basics, like writing a blog post or uploading an image, are fairly intuitive. But there are many advanced features that can strengthen your website’s performance.

I help people master WordPress so they can manage their own websites efficiently, effectively, and successfully.

My personalized tutorials walk you through the steps of using WordPress, and I’ll show you best practices for all aspects of managing a website, from configuring settings for optimum website performance to using plugins to enhance your website’s features and functionality. I’ll guide you through troubleshooting when issues arise within the WordPress environment. And if you want to go deeper, I’ll even teach you basic code so you can alter the design and other elements of your site.

Best of all, WordPress coaching is completely customized to match your business goals and your skill level.

The best bloggers make it look easy, but a successful blog requires a significant investment of time and effort. Blogging combines the art of writing with technical skills and marketing savvy. That’s a lot to learn.

By working with an experienced and successful blogger, you will learn everything you need to know about blogging with an emphasis on using your blog to grow your business.

I started my blog, Writing Forward, in September 2007 with little more than a creative writing degree and some HTML skills. In 2009, and again in 2012, Writer’s Digest named it one of the “101 Best Websites for Writers.” Today, Writing Forward receives over 100,000 visits per month and that number continues to grow. Not bad for something that started out as a hobby.

Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about blogging and how to do it successfully. Now I’m ready to share what I’ve learned through my blog coaching program, which includes the following:

  • Blog Writing: Get honest feedback and professional editing for your blog posts, plus insights on writing, formatting, and structuring blog posts for an online audience.
  • WordPress: Receive comprehensive lessons on how to use WordPress for blogging and as a content management system for your small business website.
  • Technology: Learn how to manage everything from hosting and domain registration to traffic reports and peripheral marketing tools.
  • Marketing: In the end, it all comes down to marketing your business. Find out which online marketing options are right for you, and learn how to leverage social media to promote your products and services.
  • Support and guidance: Through the process of blogging, you’ll have tons of questions. As long as you’re enrolled in my coaching program, you’ll have one-on-one access to a mentor who can provide clear answers.

Don’t have a blog or website yet? No problem. I also offer website design services.

Business blogging offers a number of benefits: You can use a blog to build your brand and establish yourself as an expert in your field, connect with customers and promote special offers or discounts, and network with other professionals in your industry. Your blog also provides a space for search engine optimization (SEO) and increasing traffic to your website while providing content that you can share on social media.

Social media is a powerful tool for marketing your business, but it’s easy to misuse. Too many small business owners jump onto social media platforms and post content that does not benefit their businesses. Social media is increasingly sophisticated, and the learning curve for mastering these platforms is on the rise.

From setting up an effective, branded social media profile to developing a strategic plan and then executing that plan, I’ll coach you through the process of using social media to get your business offerings in front of a wider audience while strengthening your connection with existing customers.

Coaching is available for a multitude of platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Goodreads, and more.

In this modern era, writing has become an increasingly valuable skill. Tools like email, text messaging, and social media have led to a renaissance in business writing, and professionals with strong writing and communication skills have a better shot at success.

I have a degree in creative writing and over twenty years of experience writing personally and professionally. I’ve written and published over eight books, six of which focus on the craft of writing. I love working with people who are interested in improving their writing skills, and as a writing coach, I’ve developed a number of effective techniques for imparting those skills to others.

As your writing coach, I will help you develop lifelong practices that lead to better, more professional writing. I’ll show you how to check your own work and provide you with tips and resources to increase your knowledge of written language, and you’ll learn best practices for developing written material ranging from emails to articles, depending on your personal and professional objectives.

Polish your business writing skills so you can send professional emails and create polished written content that will grow your business and further your career.

Coaching is usually provided on a monthly basis, with weekly sessions conducted via email. However, coaching can be customized to fit your schedule and goals.
